1939 German GP - Heinz Brendel
Heinz was selected by Neubauer to test the W125 at Monza in 1937, and after that became reserve driver. Brendel participated only in one grand prix. Following a strong fifth place in qualifying, he was told to hand the car over to Hermann Lang for the race itself. Instead of following instructions, Brendel drove on and was involved in a collision. A later test at the Nürburgring ended with the car going up in flames and a trip to hospital.
